Which protagonist is the face of the series? When you think Grand Theft Auto, which of these protagonists first comes to mind?

He was so bad ass, he had the properties, mansion, money, crew and loads more. I enjoyed playing as him, he fit GTA VC's storyline well.

Although I don't like Tommy Vercetti so much, I can say he's the face of GTA, he comes first in people's mind. Also Tommy reflects the characteristic of a real criminal man; a badass, brave, tough, money and power hungry (a heavily bit). Also a big man who's a mafia leader, property owner, "legit" businessman... For me, it's Tommy.

Niko is probably the main face of GTA since GTA IV was the latest big GTA game that was released. People who aren't hardcore GTA games probably still remember who he is. He's not my personal pick though. But if we talk about GTA protagonists I would proably think of Niko since he was the latest major protagonist.

I don't know so much about Tommy, but from Iwhat I understand he seems to be the most stereotypical GTA protagonist. He's also a very popular character. CJ seems to be the opposite. Many people think he is gangsta and awesome but then there are some who think he wasn't that great of a GTA character. Personally I think he is one of the most memorable characters in the series.

They're all memorable to me but I'd say it's between Claude and Niko Bellic. I don't even like Claude (he's my least favorite protagonist) but I can't deny that he was an iconic character/avatar.

Niko is the most recent protag so it's hard to judge how memorable he is but for me he's the most realistic and well developed protagonist we've had so far. He was like a perfect blend of Tommy and CJ - he was a borderline psychopath but he had a heart. Tommy was great and is my second favorite but I wish we knew more about him, and CJ is really underrated on here. He's a good/okay character if you don't take him too seriously. One could even say he's the face of the series simply because he's the protagonist of the most popular GTA game.

Anyway, I voted for Niko because he's my favorite protagonist.

Johnny and Vic Vance were the only worthwhile protagonists in that bunch; and even then, neither is a "stereotypical" GTA protagonist. Vic Vance feels genuine regret for his actions while Johnny has a pronounced limp.

@CJ Killed Ryder

I left out the protagonists of the smaller games because:

1. It would be stupid to say Huang, Johnny, Vic, Luis etc. were more iconic than CJ, Tommy, Claude or Niko when the games they were in sold significantly less. How could they be the face of the series when their games sold only a fraction compared to the protagonists of the big main games?

2. A lot of casual GTA fans have only played the main games so those characters are not as known as the ones in the poll.

I voted Tommy, firstly he was simply played by Ray Liotta famous for staring in Goodfellas, now that is just badass how R* got him for a whole video game, it really gave the game that feel as well. The best part was even though I knew T's voice actor was Ray, I still felt like I was playing with Tommy.

I hope some more famous voice actors return, not for the main character but for other characters, Joe Pesci would just be awesome.

San Andreas is my favourite GTA, but I'm not one of those gay fanboys. So I'm going to be completely honest..

1. Claude. Because, he was the first protagonist in the 3D-era.

2. Niko. Because of IV.

3. CJ and Tommy.
