Is an upgrade from R5850 to GTX 670 worth it?

I have a radeon 5850 in my system (i7 920, 12GB DDR3 1600, SSD, win 7 64). At 1080p I get som stuttering with shadows, reflections and water set to high, but with a combination of low / medium settings i get decent frame rates in 1080p. So I am wondering how much of a difference a GTX 670 will make in this system.

It's definitely worth it, it should make a huge difference not only in GTA4, but in all other games as well. GTX670 is about twice as fast as HD5850.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looking at an Asus GTX 670 which is supposed to be quiet.

I'd go for Gigabyte, because ASUS has no radiator on memory.

Any upgrade is just that; an upgrade. By switching to a GTX670 you will definatly see an increase in preformance. Just make sure you are not bottlenecking your computer, a great GPU is no good paired with a insufficent ammount of RAM. And make sure you check that your PSU can handle the added power consumption.

Actually, it will add little to none power consumption. According to techpowerup, GTX670 consumes only 20-30W more than HD6860.

GTA IV should max out in 1080p with a GTX 670, and its the best bang for your buck right now to.

yes i agree on this although the Asus edition cools the temps batter and is quieter. But i think the gigabyte edition is $1/£10 cheaper.

Edit: SOrry for the double post blush.gif
