As your units travel as boats they are undefended so you use the warships to protect them and take out enemy units when they are undefended. Also they are very useful for bombarding costal cities.

Ah, sounds awesome

Sounds like an incredibly large improvement to the system. Quite frankly, I didn't like building Galleys to just go to a tiny island off the coast.

Well, if you are pondering over getting CivV, get CivIV and be ready for some sleepless nights. CivIV is so much better (IMO) in every goddamn aspect (IMO) then CivV it's incredible. CivV did introduce a few things that are interesting, like the natural wonders (minor) and the "no-more-unit-stacking" thing (major) but overall it's a washed out experience.

* no more religion - a huge loss
* no more town based happiness - this is part of what was making Civ a strategy
* no more wellness AT ALL - another thing that made Civ a strategy
* no espionage
* proper battle mechanics (try dragging 20 units in CivV to another continent, it take like 5 minutes per turn)
* totally redesigned economics - for the worse. You could buy some stuff before in CivIV but it was rather expensive to do so, only for emergencies, basically

Plus, if you get the Beyond the sword expansion, there are so many mods it's exhilarating. Like "The Ancient Mediterranean" mod that focuses solely on the pre-gunpowder are which I find the most interesting.

Civ V is bloody amazing and impressive in pretty much every regard.
I must protest the opposition to the lack of stacking: After all, stacking, in my opinion, made IV too mechanical, too formulaic - quite frankly, I do not wish to stare at spreadsheets for hours at a time trying to create the ideal Stack O' Doom. I just finished a campaign where I nuked all of the Russian cities and moved in my Giant Death Robots, surrounding the cities before bombarding the sh*t out of them from behind. That was fun.

No stacking is definitively a good thing, but without some sort of grouping it's a rather big pain in the put. Also, the remainder of game mechanics is pure sh*te.

Few questions,
How do you attack a camp/city with 2 units at the same time?
How do you receive a "trade" from a city state? It's the last tutorial but I don't recieve a trade.

For trading you need the merchant great person (if that's what you are talking about).

If you want to attack some town from various sides, you will have to circle it with your units.

Is someone still playing this?(I know about the 2-year bump).

The new expansion pack is to be released at 19 June.Civilization V:Gods and Kings

'' Gods & Kings is set to include 27 new units, 13 new buildings, nine new wonders and nine new playable civilizations. ''

'' A new religion mechanic featuring a "faith" resource will allow players to found their own religion which they can grow to a "world-spanning fully customized religion." Diplomacy has been reworked to include espionage, foreign embassies, and new types of city-states (religious and mercantile). City-states will also feature a new quest system and strategic importance. Additionally, the combat system has been re-worked to include smarter AI, an expanded early modern era, and enhanced naval combat featuring Great Admiral and melee naval units. Gods & Kings will add an additional 52 Steam achievements to Civilization V.''

'' Religion will feature prominently in the first two-thirds of the game, affecting diplomacy and international relations, but its effect will taper off as players approach the modern era. Gods & Kings will include eleven religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Shinto, Sikhism, Taoism, Tengrism and Zoroastrianism. However, the player has the option to rename any religion. ''

'' Espionage in Gods & Kings can be used to invade rival civilizations as well as city-states. Spies are capable of stealing technology, rigging elections, performing reconnaissance, as well as various other espionage missions available in previous Civilization games. Unlike in previous games, however, spies are not trained by a civilization. Instead, they are awarded at certain intervals along the timeline. Additionally, unlike in past games, spies can gain levels for successfully performing a mission. Captured spies can also reveal information to the opposing civilization. The espionage system is designed to take effect just as the religion system begins to taper off. As such, spies are not available until the Renaissance era.Espionage will not be available in multiplayer, but instead will only work in singleplayer.''

'' The expansion is set to include nine new playable civilizations and leaders: the Netherlands under William I, Celtica under Boudicca, the Maya under Pacal the Great, Carthage under Dido, Byzantium under Theodora, the Huns under Attila, Austria under Maria Theresa, Ethiopia under Haile Selassie, and Sweden under Gustavus Adolphus. Additionally, Spain under Isabella, and Mongolia under Genghis Khan, both previously released as DLC for Civilization V (the latter of which was free), will be included with the expansion in addition to the nine new playable civilizations.''

Kind of disappointed that the Portuguese doesn't come in this expansion, but it brings epic stuff.Still getting it.
Started a new game yesterday.
Civ:England
Difficulty:Prince
Game Size:Huge(12 nations,24 city-states)
Map: Earth
Game Time:Marathon

London was founded on Africa, and I'm blocked off the western side by a huge line of mountains.Still haven't researched much, but I'm allied with Dublin and found Songhai.

The only info I found about the price is apparently it will cost USD $29.99.I find it expensive personally, but I think the civilizations are worth it(my personal favorites are the Celts, the Spanish and the Mayans).

It is targeted for release on 19 June 2012 (22 June internationally).

For more info about the expansion, consult this:
http://well-of-souls.com/civ/civ5_expansion.html

I will quote some of the info there which I feel it is epic:

Civilization Capital Unique Unit Unique U/B/I Special Ability
Austria Vienna Hussar Coffee House Diplomatic Marriage
Byzantium Constantinople Dromon Cataphract Patriarchate of Constantinople
Carthage Carthage African Forest Elephant Quinquereme Phoenician Heritage
Celts Edinburgh Pictish Warrior Ceilidh Hall Druidic Lore
Ethiopia Addis Ababa Mehal Safari Stele Spirit of Adwa
Huns Attila's Court Battering Ram Horse Archer Scourge of God
Mayans Palenque Atlatlist Pyramid The Long Count
Netherlands Amsterdam Sea Beggar Polder Dutch East India Company
Sweden Stockholm Hakkapeliitta Carolean Nobel Prize
Spain Madrid Conquistador(Conquerer) Tercio Seven Cities of Gold

Special Abilities
Diplomatic Marriage (Austria): Can spend Gold to annex or puppet an allied City-State.
Patriarchate of Constantinople (Byzantium): Choose one more Belief than normal when you found a Religion.
Phoenician Heritage (Carthage): All coastal Cities get a free Harbor. Units may cross mountains after the first Great General is earned, taking 50 HP damage if they end a turn on a mountain.
Druidic Lore (Celts): +1 Faith per city with an adjacent unimproved Forest. Bonus increases to +2 Faith in Cities with 3 more more adjacent unimproved Forest tiles.
Spirit of Adwa (Ethiopia): Combat bonus (+20%) when fighting units from a Civilization with more Cities than Ethiopia.
Scourge of God (Huns): Raze cities at double-speed. Borrow City names from other in-game Civs. Start with Animal Husbandry technology. +1 Production from Pasture.
The Long Count (Maya): After researching Theology, receive a bonus great person at the end of every Maya calendar cycle ( 394 years ).
Dutch East India Company (Netherlands): Retains 50% of the happiness benefits from a luxury resource if your last copy of it is traded away.
Nobel Prize (Sweden): Gain 90 Influence with a Great Person gift to a City-State. When declaring friendship, Sweden and their friend gets a +10% boost to Great Person generation.
Seven Cities of Gold (Spain): Gold bonus for discovering a Natural Wonder (bonus enhanced if first to discover it). Culture, happiness, and tile yields from Natural Wonders doubled.
Changes to Existing Civilizations

England: Sun Never Sets changed to: "+2 Movement for all naval units. Receives 1 extra Spy."

The following civilizations' unique abilities have been confirmed as unchanged: Rome, Germany, Russia, Persia, India, Arabia, Iroquois, Spain, Aztecs, France.

Revised Technology Tree

The tech tree has changed. The Classical era has been expanded to 2 tiers, and the Industrial/Modern transition has been expanded. Combustion and Flight, for example, now provide for early WWI versions of aircraft and tanks instead of the WWII-era versions available in Civ V, which have presumably been pushed to later techs. Ed Beach: "...there isn’t a Great War era, so to speak, we just used that terminology to describe a class of units. We have, however, included a new era in the tech tree to help us stretch out the post-gunpowder world a little further."

New Resources

It appears that all of these new resources are Luxury Resources, providing +Happiness in addition to the tile bonuses. The list of font icons obtained through the beta patch shows icons for only those 7 luxury resources that we already know about (listed below).

Truffles
Improved by: Hunting Camp
Bonus: +2 Gold
Notes: These look like wild boars rather than pigs, and the fact that they appear to require a Hunting Camp rather than a Pasture seems to support this conclusion. However, the resource itself is actually Truffles (as revealed by a tooltip in the IGN video).

Crab
Improved by: Fishing Boats
Notes: The "net" cast from the Fishing Boats is a box-shaped crab pot instead. Crab is a tradable luxury resource.

Citrus
Improved by: Plantation
Bonus: +1 Food, +1 Gold
Notes: Citrus is a tradable luxury resource.

Salt
Improved by: Mine
Bonus: +1 Food, +2 Gold
Notes: Appears to be a tradable luxury resource.

Copper
Improved by: Mine
Bonus: +2 Gold
Notes: Copper is a luxury resource.

Porcelain
Notes: A manufactured luxury resource unique to Mercantile City-States. This resource is not located on the map, but is awarded by the City-State to its ally civilization. It does appear that conquering a Mercantile City-State also give you access to the resource; in this screen the Dutch player has annexed Marrakech, but the Porcelain shows in the tooltip for city tile, and in the Happiness menu, the player is receiving a Happiness bonus for Porcelain.

Jewelry
A manufactured luxury resource unique to Mercantile City-States; it is produced by the city-state rather than found on the map, similar to Porcelain.

Tulips: Several early previews claimed that Tulips are a manufactured luxury resource created by the Netherlands Polder unique improvement. However, this has not been verified via in-game screenshot; the portion of the Polder Civilopedia entry we've seen does not mention Tulips, and the list of font icons obtained through the beta patch does not contain a resource icon for Tulips, so it seems likely that either these previews were in error, or Tulips have since been removed.

Seems really a must-buy.

EDIT:

Turns out I didn't save my England Marathon game.

So,here's the settings to my new game:
Civ: Iroquois
Map: Earth
Difficulty: Prince
Game Size: Huge(custom edited,12 city-states,12 players(America,Ottomans,Iroquois,England,France,Germany,Songhai,Japan,China,Egypt,Greece,Rome))
Game Time:Marathon

I spawned on North America,founding Onondaga,the Iroquois capital,now a level 5.(I'm at about 1000BC now,started at 3000BC)
We quickly evolved with the resources we had around us(wine and cattle),because apparently the south USA is very rich on resources. We explored North America and Central America fully, from Mexico to Alaska.Alaska is a poor, winter wasteland, and Mexico is a small place rich in resources and bandit settlements). We did not explore South America since it is blocked off by a mountain.
We expanded and we now have 5 bustling cities and we have only spanned for 2000 years, researching iron working right now.
Our cities are:

Onondaga(5),our capital,is a bustling city with some minor cities of our empire(we're the major power in North America, possibly in all of the Americas) connected to it.It's main exportation's are wine, cattle and food through all over the empire.Located between Kansas and Oklahoma

Osininka(2),the second founded city, and one of the smallest ones.It is a level two city.It is a small miner city, which contains a Silver Mine,a Quarry, another Mine and a few trading posts. It's main exportation's are silver, marble and money(I would say gold, but that is also a luxury resource to it could get confusing) all over the empire. The main importation is food, being the only city without a single farm.
A road is being built to connect this city to the capital.Located on Northern Arizona

Grand River(3),the third founded city.It is a rural city, being the main source of food for the empire. It contains two wheat farms and two farms, and contains FOUR ivory(elephants,to be more precise) camps. It's main exportation's are wheat, ivory and food. The only importation is money, which it lacks. This city is connected to the capital by a road.Located on New Mexico, near Colorado.

Akwesasne(3),the fourth founded city, and the city evolving faster. It has trading posts all over it,with some luxury resources,as silver, gold and wheat. It has one farm, one of each luxury resource mentioned above, and the rest of the tiles with trading posts.
It's main exportation's are money, since the other ones are pretty much covered by Osininka, except gold. The main importation is food, even though they do have some food of their own.Located on Texas.

Buffalo Creek(3),the newest city on the empire. It is a coastal, fisher city, and a masterpiece to the empire because of it's resources. It has HORSES,the most precious resource on the empire, ivory and bananas. All on the Oaxaca,Mexico.

Bam,I decided to try to follow the actual history but making a contrary timeline. So,the Iroquois kicked the American's asses on my game. After I researched iron working I built an army of Iroquois Warriors(Iroquois special unit) and overwhelmed their two cities:Washington and New York.

Very satisfying.
