Fleet Foxes - (debut) Genre: Indie folk, folk rock, baroque pop
I bought the record back in the summer of 2009. Never really was a big fan of folk, but I took a risk. After I got it, I found myself listening to it over and over again. I really liked falling to sleep to it. Great album.
I hate topics like this. I have about 10 in constant rotation. I neglect some to bring others up, almost through guilt. Some fall off the list completely, only to be replaced again with something new. I don't like to admit it, but I often get bored and when I find something I really like I hammer it, listening to it over and over until my ears are sore and I wince at the very sound of it. The ones in my top 10 are exempt from this, because usually there's a trigger and there's a reason why I love them. It's also because of this that I leave them alone sometimes, just so they don't get stale. I'd hate for my once favourites to turn like milk.
I'm not going to list them all, though. In fact, I'm just going to list one.
This is probably up there, about 2 or 3. It was my dad who got me into Zappa, but he likes the more accessible, less hat-stand material. He found this a little too jazzy, and I only found this by delving into his insane back catalog and discography. I love Zappa, but I will admit some of his albums are hit and miss. I fear if I'd have found this later on, it wouldn't have stuck as well as it did. It's the only album I own on both CD and vinyl. I'm not a vinyl man. I don't even own a record player. Every once in a while I'll stick this on and get lost completely. At the time, I'd never even heard instruments like this before, let alone used in the way they are. I remember hearing Willie The Pimp for the first time and it was just so sleazy and sexy I felt bad for even enjoying it. It went against everything I ever liked in music. At that point I was very much into metal. If it didn't thunder and rumble, I wasn't interested. I'd like to say this album was a turning point.

No need to list all your favorites gentlemen. This isn't that serious of a thread. Don't think too hard.
With records, you are compelled to listen to the entire track-list, but with music today, we can pick and choose. So I figured if we'd talk about those records that we can play from start to finish, because those are the ones that matter the most.
Like the others I often find it hard to narrow it down to just a top five but I'll post the album that has been with me from the very beginning and one I never get fed up of.
Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell II - Back Into Hell
I grew up listening to this album and to this day I can listen to it from start to finish and still be amazed at the songs on there. Sure it's a bit overblown, a tad cheesy, very over-the-top but it's bloody brilliant in doing it. From the opening motorcycle-like guitar riff through to the memorable piano sequence in Anything For Love, to the anger presented in Life Is A Lemon and the semi-autobiographical Objects the album shines thanks to Meats passionate singing, the great if not absurd lyrics of Jim Steinman and the playing of the Neverland Express.

Pink Floyd - Animals
Fantastic album, start to finish. Waters - inspired by George Orwell's Animal Farm - lays down his finest lyrics, as he attacks Capitalism. Gilmour supplies some of his most soulful guitar work on there too.
*Not my all-time favourite album, mind you - just at the top the rotation at the moment.

1,000x this. The quintessential Pink Floyd album in my honest opinion.
I'd go on to list more favorite albums but at the moment I haven't the slightest clue where I should start. I just have too much music in my collection.
Over time, I've listened to some albums that have really made an incredible difference in my life. Turn on the Bright Lights, by Interpol was the first. Their style, sleek feel, and excellent execution creates an album full of emotion, despite emotionless vocals. It's songs, teeming with emotional and structural peaks are always solid, usually fantastic, sometimes breathtaking genius work.
One of my favorite songs of all time, Specialist, was originally not supposed to be on the album, but it was eventually used as the bonus track on the Japanese version.
Turn On The Bright Lights was a masterpiece, from start to finish a classic Alternative Rock/Indie album.
My favorite all-time album has to be the one from my #1 band Radiohead: Ok Computer from 1997 i believe, beautiful music. All of the songs there are Radiohead classics, except for Fitter Happier, which is sort of an in between song.

As far as my personal taste goes, not even the mighty Pink Floyd or Iron Maiden can beat the feeling that Radiohead gave me with this album and overall with their music.

In no particular order....
Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park
An album that really, truly gripped me for a very long time. I'm confident in saying that this album is what made me venture into the heavier genres of music.
The Eminem Show - Eminem
Although it's not his best, it was the first one I listened to from start to finish. Afterwards, I felt invincible. Every lyric, every rhyme and every beat made me love it more and more. This album kicked off my Eminem addiction and when I discovered Infinite, I knew he was the greatest thing I'd ever listened to. His latest stuff has been rather disappointing though. It lacks the passion and energy he once had. I respect his choices and the paths he takes, I just hope he calls it quits soon before he ruins himself.
The Wall - Pink Floyd
I first heard this album when I was about 15. I'd just finished school and college was on the horizon. Being a bit of a loner and a shy kid, this album was constantly being played on my MP3 player. One day, a couple of girls asked what I was listening to and, after a rather awkward moment, we ended up talking about music for hours and being friends right up until this day. I went and listened to all of their albums and realised that Pink Floyd surpassed Eminem in their brilliance (only by a bit, mind). David Gilmour is the greatest thing to have ever spawned from this amazing planet. Roger Waters, despite being a bit of a child sometimes, is an absolute lyrical genius. I got to see The Wall live last year, something I thought I'd never have the chance of doing seeing as I was born far too late, and it is, to this day, the greatest moment of my life. Nothing will ever stop me loving Pink Floyd. I love every album, every solo. I love everything about them.

That's what I want. Great story! This is what music is all about.
The more you learn about music the more you'll see oasis for the fake uninspired plagiarists they are. I don't have much respect for them.
I'm not saying they are the be all end all for music, I'm saying that they released one of my favourite albums of all time, and regarding you saying they are 'uninspired plagiarists' is a complete contradiction because you have to be inspired to take one piece of music and turn it into something else. They have never lied or hidden the fact that they copied or stole bits and pieces of other peoples music and if people enjoy it why should they?

Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe
Genre - Melodic death metal
Seriously, the most incredible album I have ever been lucky enough to hear. Not just the amazingly well-crafted music, but the lyrics too (obviously, you can joke about the fact that you can't understand them). They're creative, entrancing, powerful and scientific, not to mention the fact that they fit the music in such a perfect way.
I highly recommend this to anyone that's a fan of Soilwork, In Flames, Sylosis - well, anything in the general area of the genre. Listen for yourself:

I'm just gonna mention my top 5 alternative rock albums: Stone Temple Pilots-Core Green Day-Insomniac Red Hot Chili Peppers-Blood Sugar Sex Magik Soundgarden-Superunknown Nirvana-Nevermind
I know there are a lot of people that are quick to dismiss Rap as meaningless shows of wealth gangsta notoriety, But lyrically and musically this album stands out in all music beyond the rap and hip hop genre
