[Basic write up at the bottom]

OK basically this is my problem, I have a nice GT 440, ASUS(no less) 1GB GDDR5 Decent GPU, sure it's not exactly a 6990, but it's a good card.

my problem is that i've seen many videos(like the one linked below) of people using this card with the SAME specs as me, but achieving much higher frame rates with much higher settings.

MY full specs+FPS:

Pentium D (classed as 2 CPU's) 3.00GHZ
2GB DDR2 RAM
ASUS GT 440 GDDR5 1GB
Windows 7 32bit(not that this matters) ultimate
GTA IV, patch 1.0.3.0? I'm not sure, all I know is there is it's 1.something.3.0 or something, I'm pretty sure it's what I just said though.

Anyway, I have everything either OFF or Low, my render distances are on 5 and my shadow desnity is OFF.

I get 11-21 FPS outside, and 30-45 inside. This is extremely POOR.

at first I just thought, meh I guess the GT 440 isn't what I thought, THEN I thought, it must be my sh*tty old CPU

BUT, how can you explain this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asYWByt1GG0

this man gets better FPS than me with everything VERY HIGH, WHILE RECORDING!?!?

he has the exact same specs as me, the only difference is he has slightly more (500mhz) CPU power(this isn't the problem, I've seen people with 2.8ghz pentium 4's doing the same).

I've only been playing for a short while, but...? Surely I'm missing something here? I even close all programs and set GTA IV priority to HIGH from task manager, with 0 difference

[Basic write up:]
I have the same specs as a guy who gets double the FPS on 4x the settings

what am I missing?

Your CPU and ram are limiting your chances.

Yeah, plus don't believe most of these Low-End PCs playing GTA IV at High settings videos, it's mostly fake.

CPU is mostly the problem. Pentium D was weak back when it's been released, and it was in 2005/06...

Also, don't believe everything you see on youtube tounge.gif

Just because you're expensive i5 system or whatever can run only just run it at these settings, doesn't mean it's fake.

I've seen it with my own eyes people with low-end CPU's and 1GB of RAM even.

Instead of gloating about how it's fake(which I'm sure you are all really enjoying)

Could you please tell me anything that might be causing this, it's clearly not my specs -_-

(I can link you to loads of videos that are not fake)

I'm sorry to come off cocky but please don't doubt this, I'm not an idiot, Battlefield 3 runs Almost ULTRA at 40FPS for example and again I have seen this with my own eyes on GTA IV, I've heard certain patches completely change the games performance, if so what should I do?

It's your specs icon14.gif

A Pentium 4 D at 3 GHz with a GT 440 just won't cut it, end of story.
If you want to play it decently, get a new system.

And I'll join the rest, most of the YouTube video's are fake.
Some just might have been lucky as IV is a weird-ass game that has random performance at all types of systems, even if they are the same.
The least you could do is reinstall the game and use patch 1.0.4.0, don't use any mods, do use the commandline switch and keep the settings, especially the sliders (View and Detail), as low as possible.

I see I've touched a nerve.

gtfo, it can run it quit hating, you have no idea what your talking about, remind me, what is a Pentium 4D processor? Lol.

And yes this makes COMPLETE sense, it was just random luck that they could run it fast, BECAUSE THATS HOW COMPUTERS WORK RIGHT?

pls come back when you know how computers work sir smile.gif

I do know how PC's work, and I know this is how IV runs; it's just such a pile of garbage because it's written poorly.
I remember there's a guy who has a C2D at around 2.5 GHz which ran the game at medium with 30 - 40 fps, and another one with the exact same thing who could only run IV at 25 fps at low to medium ...

And you haven't touched a nerve, if you thought so wink.gif
It's just that i5's are almost granted to run IV decently, but, for example, with a C2D or C2Q it isn't.
My previous system had a C2Q 2.5 GHz and HD6950 which could only run the game at around 30 fps at medium to high settings.
Even someone with a C2Q 3.8 GHz had trouble running the game.

And I said Pentium 4 D processor to abbreviate it, I meant Intel Pentium 4 Dual Core processor with it icon14.gif

First get some attitude, and then come back to ask for help smile.gif

I try but everyone is a dick saying "nononono not possibru get new computer"

when half of them have never even had experience with this, and FYI I installed the 1.0.4.0 or w/e patch and now I'm getting 20-40FPS on medium-high

We say this out of experience, most just can't reach higher than 30 fps on low with a Pentium processor wink.gif
But it's good to hear you now got good performance, and this is just another bit of proof how f*cked up IV is: you have amazing performance for that system, to be honest.

I had a C2Q 2.5 GHz, which is quite a lot faster than a Pentium Dual Core, and that could run IV at only medium to reach more than 30 fps and that's why I told you to get a new system icon14.gif
Nonetheless, if you're fine with what you have, I'm fine with it too.

original poster, your system is using windows 7, maybe that youtube poster is using xp. i had pentium d 940
http://ark.intel.com/products/27519/Intel-...Hz-800-MHz-FSB)
and it wouldn't do 30 fpx with shadows off, everything low - but it was a dell windows vista 64-bit installation (clean no bloat - business users disc). but the hp pavilion i upgraded to x2 3800+/4200+ ran 30 fps no problem with bloated HP xp installation (again, shadows off). both were tested using the same video card - 512mb 8800gt. if you have a copy of windows xp and an old hard drive laying around, i would give it a try. make sure to revoke your installs before wiping/deleting any gtaIV/EFLC games
