If this is in the wrong section, please re-direct me!

I have steam version of GTA IV, patched down from 1.0.7.0 to 1.0.4.0. I have all the needed files, or so i believe. Xlive, dsound, asiloaders etc. Trainers and graphics mods work, but when I try to isntall a mod via SparkIV or by just copy and paste from a Car Mod Pack, it won't change the cars when I play in game, niether do imported weapon sounds using SparkIV. - But this is mainly for car mods. Any help? Will post more info if need to.

don't install both xliveless and dsound make a choice . also for cars installing i recommend automatic installers

Switched out Xlive and kept dsound. The car mod pack I installed says to just copy and paste files to GTA IV directory, and it's still not working. I then tried to install individual models, and the installer said that the chosen model has already been changed. for every car I tried

Try putting the car pack files in to their folders manually.
carcols.dat, handling.dat, and vehicles.ide all go in common/data
vehicles.img goes in pc/models/cdimages

i believe these packs have been extensively tested , so if you read the readme carefully there should be no prob .. normally

The only file in the Pc/models/cdimages is newveh.img, no vehicles.img. The rest of the files for the common folder are there, though. Using GTA IV CAR PACK V8.5 by Axe1221

seems the guy has voluntarily renamed his file for you to make a backup first . backup your file , then rename the newveh stuff to vehicles.img . if your modified your install before installing that pack , then it may not work . i think that kind of pack should be installed on a clean install

Odd, my gtaiv directory folder pc/model/cdimages folder has newveh, and newveh1. I'll go ahead and do my backup and try it.

It's around 150mb. What I mean is that my GTA IV folder (not the one included in the mod pack) has newveh1 already, including newhandling, newhandling1. I'm not sure why this would be. Would do a fresh install but I have mobile broadband, tethered USB connection off of my phone on 2g service, as I live rural so I have very little bandwidth. I'll look for Previous verisons of it on my computer so I can restore it back to normal. Renamed the newveh file and handling, deleted unnecessary files, manually added the files from the modpack, game crashes after clicking start and logging in offline on windows live. Game crashes when it plays the intro music before it starts the loading screen concept art.

don't install the scripts (asi) . install the stuff then rename newveh.img to vehicles.img , newhandling.dat to handling.dat and newvec.ide to vehicles.ide

Now an error, RSGC.exe cannot start, must be running and present for game to run.

No. Its just part of how to add vehicles (see tutorials), not a backup advice. If vehicles are meant to be add on, the IMG can not replace the original vehicles.img.

man, you need to save after replacing.
use OPEN IV cuz when you save spark sometimes it doesnt save(i dont know the reason).
open iv saves automaticaly.
make sure you make backups.

I have saved, I used Open IV after trying Spark but it didn't help, either. Same problem, cars aren't changing yet the files has been changed
