So i installed gta4 a few days ago and noticed it didnt install with xlive but it still asks for it.Im currently using xliveless but id like to play MP so any idea why it wouldnt?Or where i could get xlive?

NO,it is not a pirated version,i bought it from walmart.

-Retail
-Game wont start without xlive

XLiveless disables online play, if you have a back up, just replace it. If you don't, then reinstall the game.

IV doesn't use xliveless from start. xliveless is a mod for IV

EDIT: only illegal copies needs xliveless to start up. so either u don't really start up IV correctly, or else u got fooled

If i run gta4.exe i get xlive.dll is missing error

If i run Launchgta4.exe i get Securom failed to launch application i dont pirate games,people sometimes...

That part is false, as Xliveless is a MOD that disables Live and online play ONLY...It IS required in order to use downloaded saves(for Save and Play and the Chain Game, etc.) For example, I have BOTH the LEGAL Retail(DVD) copy-bought from Wal-Mart #1362 AND the Steam version games and Xliveless is the ONLY way I am able to save the game, as Live WILL NOT work-everytime it just comes up with the "Update required.." message...I go through the update process like 5+ times and still have the same problem..So, you mind explaining you "logic" about how it is only for illegal games? Curious

well, illegal games have to turn off gfwl, so there they need xliveless, so yes, ONLY ILLEGAL COPIES NEEDS IT TO RUN. get those facts right dude.

AFAIK you can run GFWL with the offline profile so you don't need to activate the game with it to play in SP. Again, AFAIK.

GFWL update
Patch 7
Do remember to always start the game with the launcher.

GTA4 runs fine but i have to disable online to play it because my gta4 is NOT installing xlive,xlive NOT xliveless as ive said twice i believe.Im trying to figure out why my gta4 disc is not installing the xlive that it says it needs.Im using win7 64 bit,3gb ram and some amd athlon card.GTA does lag a lil but runs mostly lag free.

It's Games For Windows Live(or simply Live)-NOT Xlive...Xlive is short for Xliveless(a mod that disables Live and online stuff)...

So, if I get what you mean, you are saying you cannot install GFWL(Games For Windows Live)? Which is impossible, as it, along with Social Club automatically gets installed during the game install process first...

Ok when i install gta4,fresh,no mods or patches,or ANYTHING,I double click gta4.exe and it says im missing xlive.dll,i guess i could reinstall again but it hasnt fixed it so far so idk.If i run launchgta4.exe i get a securom launch error for sum odd reason... im starting to think something is wrong with the disc

Yes i see it,im no getting patch 7 cause i lose 5-10 fps when i install it as for gfwl...

By launcher do you mean social club or launchgta4.exe?

If you don't install patch 7 you can't access multiplayer hence there's no need to install GFLW, use xliveless instead.
The game launcher is the file LaunchGTAIV.exe.

oh my god, u clearly don't understand. if an illegal copy doesn't have it, u can't save nor load because gfwl isn't disabled. u now understand?! illegal copies needs it to run, as i said, i didn't say it was only for illegal copies. next time, read and understand.

and FYI, i know wtf xliveless does and doesn't, i'm not new to this

Mate, you can create an offline profile prior to activating the game with GFWL. At least you could with the old GFWL version, first time I installed the game, I distinctly remember that I activated the game only with securom and then created an offline profile for saving the game. xliveless wasn't in the picture back then.
