Right, so I recently bought GTA SA for PS2 (Sealed, in a STORE, brand new) and I was wondering where does "Second Edition" say, I mean, I overlooked the case and the Disc, it doesn't say Second Edition anywhere, on the disc it says "Developed by Rockstar Games Made in Austria 2004-2009" (Well, something like that), but doesn't say anywhere it's Second Edition, is there a way to make sure it's Second or First edition, I really wanna know.

Another thing, was the PC version of First Edition only available in Box Sets? Or, was the Second Edition ever available in Box sets? Because I wanna own the V 1.0 which I sow some selling it for 4.50 Euros but I wanna make sure it's V 1.0.

"Second Edition" words are only on today's PC versions. Not PS2/Xbox versions.
Don't know about the second question, but probably both versions are in box sets.
This is the only time, when this topic has only animated GIF avatars : D

My NTSC/UC copies can be indentified by the product ID.
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/914983-grand-t...an-andreas/data

I've got SLUS-20946 (v1) and SLUS-20946GH (v2 Greatest Hits). This information is displayed on the left side of the DVD between the PS2 and DVD logos. It looks like the AU versions are SLES-52541 (v1) and nothing for v2.

The nothing result I suspect will be frustrating though. Another method to confirm the version is to check a text data file on the DVD. V2 for PS2 is missing the unused pay'n'spray (timy1) near the pyramid. Stick the DVD into a computer and open the file referenced below with a text editor. Scroll near the bottom until you find the garage (grge) section.

D:\DATA\MAPS\VEGAS\VEGASE.IPL

V1: SLUS20946
CODE
grge
2602.6, 1438.84, 9.8337, 2616.4, 1438.84, 2602.6, 1462.11, 15.4891, 1, 1, vgElock
2389.6, 1483.26, 9.81843, 2398.11, 1483.26, 2389.6, 1497.84, 15.6841, 5, 5, timy1
2382.28, 1044, 9.8337, 2391.14, 1044, 2382.28, 1059.73, 13.9338, 1, 1, vEcmod
2449.5, 695.018, 10.4742, 2458.31, 695.018, 2449.5, 700.227, 12.9155, 1, 18, vEsvgrg
end

V2: SLUS20946GH
CODE
grge
2602.6, 1438.84, 9.8337, 2616.4, 1438.84, 2602.6, 1462.11, 15.4891, 1, 1, vgElock
2382.28, 1044, 9.8337, 2391.14, 1044, 2382.28, 1059.73, 13.9338, 1, 1, vEcmod
2449.5, 695.018, 10.4742, 2458.31, 695.018, 2449.5, 700.227, 12.9155, 1, 18, vEsvgrg
end

Added: IIRC, version 1 for PS2 would crash or freeze when CJ exited a Vortex after using a pay'n'spray. Use a cheat to spawn a vortex and check it out. Spawns Vortex: Triangle, Triangle, Square, Circle, X, L1, L2, Down, Down

I'll check that out, anyway my version is: SLES-52541 and it has 18+ Rating.
Anyway, is there a way to know that on the PC version without playing the game?

The missing PnS and Vortex crash methods are specific to PS2. These methods don't work for PC, but there have been an awful lot of topics about identifying PC versions.

The Game doesn't freeze so I guess it's V 2.0.
Anyway, I was talking about without playing the game, just by looking at the box, also was V 2.0 for PC ever available in Box Sets?

Damn. I would have thought that SLES-52541 would have properly identified it as v1. But then again, the GameFAQs reference lists the ratings as MA for both, so perhaps their reference isn't all that good anyway.

I found some old notes that confirm the vortex crash after a pay'n'spray on PS2v1 for NTSC/UC and PAL, but no mention for the AU version. The release dates are almost identical so I'd be surprised if there was a difference. Another reference mentioned that exiting the Vortex when traveling at speed would also cause a crash. IMO, absence of a this glitch is less convincing than it's presence.

A missing pay'n'spray in the data files should be pretty convincing evidence though.

I've got no clue about what or how SA was sold in Australia, but any copyright date after 2005 would probably be v2.

Orion, it was Austria, the country in Europe,

Not Australia. tounge.gif

Also, other than data files, is it possible checking that just by going into the game and checking if it's over there instead?

EDIT: Yup, it doesn't have timy1, it's V 2.0.

^Enjoy. tounge2.gif Actually, I agree with you.

Anyway is there a way to identify the PC version without even playing it?
Do all the PC versions today say "Second Edition" on the disc?

For PC, IF you bought the game BEFORE June 2005, it is V1, as June of 2005 is when V2 was released for PC. I bought my PC version in June 2005 from Wal-Mart #990 and it was V2. V2 says "Second Edition" on the box whereas V1 says nothing. V2 even says "V2.00" on the beginning screen when the game is started. ALL Legal Downloads(Steam, D2D, Amazon, Gamestop, etc. are V3).

For PS2, there is the Original, Greatest Hits, and Trilogy Pack versions-which are quite easy to tell apart, as the Greatest Hits says "Greatest Hits" on the package and the Trilogy Pack is obviously noticeable, as it has all 3 games in it(III, VC, and SA). The Greatest Hits AND Trilogy Packs are equivalent to PC V2. The Original is V1 equivalent. The Greatest Hits and Trilogy Pack saves ARE compatible, whereas they are NOT compatible with the Original version.

For the PS2, I have the standard (NTSC v1) replica. Imagery is the best indicator, I recon.

http://d3ee7trzaok1jo.cloudfront.net/thumb...xx=150&maxy=150

http://d3ee7trzaok1jo.cloudfront.net/thumb...xx=150&maxy=150

Special Edition, Greatest Hits, (both NTSC v2) it's the same game with the same programming. As for pinpointing the replica by viewing the disc, I can't confirm (nor deny) because I don't have a v2 disc to observe.

Note: NTSC & PAL (NTSC is used in North America whereas PAL is used in the rest of the world) is vital. My citations were NTSC v1 or v2. PAL v2 is called "platinum" (I think) and I'm unsure how to pinpoint PAL v1.

My guess: You most likely have PAL V2.

I realize this is a bit off-topic, but I didn't realize it when I started my investigation and I want to post my notes someplace. The short answer is: visiting the unused pay'n'spray probably isn't a good way to check if the garage still exists.

I'm not finding the old reference for PS2 on the unused pay'n'spray in LV. The closest I could find is from PC, and it looks like they've modified the game so the door opens. All I really remember from the video is that someone managed to squeeze a bike through the hole in the floor as shown late in the video below; except the door was still closed. The player just wiggled his bike against the wall until it fell through. I tried it on PC a very long time ago and never got it to work, and haven't really thought about again until now. I have no evidence that a vehicle can actually be painted in the unused pay'n'spray on PS2v1.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOaGjs4q_9A

I did manage to find what looks like an easy fix on PC. As I understand it, the door doesn't work because it's on backwards. As I understood it last time I checked, turning the door around was fairly tricky. The solution below looks simple enough, although I think it just lets the door open despite being backward.

To restore a closed Pay 'N' Spray in GTA San Andreas in Las Venturas on PC, go to data\maps\vegas folder, open vegasE.ide file with Notepad, found the 8957, vgsEspdr01, vgsegarage, 150, 128 line and replace 128 with 2176. Be aware, its use can lead to problems with sound. Make sure you have a back up for the original file.
