I love it when multiple people are repeatedly kicking me over and over. All those "pings" just for me. All that attention.
But if it bothers you, how about getting a headset that has both game and chat sound? You could then concentrate on talking to a friend and cancel out the game sounds.

Doesn't your headphone suggestion mean loosing game audio to get rid of the ping?

Yes, all you would hear is your friend's voices. It's the only solution for your problem.
Or you could adjust your TV's treble so that it isn't quite as irritating.
