Look at this map of Liberty City. Kind small, isn't it? But walking around Liberty City, I feel the city is big, and not that small.... I don't think'this city is so tiny compared to Los Santos', for example...... Is it only me or anyone feels the same? Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

They certainly did a good job of creating a sense of scale with the limitations they had at the time, LC is like a second home to me, I know it back to front and yet it still seems big to me!

It's not big when you fly in Dodo. It's big when you drive in a Manana, or Perennial.

Yes friends, even after playing games with bigger maps, like GTA San Andreas and GTA IV, I still feel Liberty City is big and well developed alien.gif

actually, the city is in normal sizes. the thing that makes LC much bigger than it is, upstate. even there is no upstate in the game, you still feel that LC somehow connected to upstate/other cities by the tunnels in the shoreside vale. Also, Carcer city is really close to LC, and it mentioned in the radio aswell. That always make me feel like Manhunt series and GTAIII was connected.

Beside all of this, the city is really really well thought and designed, every place has a feeling to itself. I dont even mention the fact that little background music with the special places like Momma's Restourante or Misty's apartment, that IS what other GTA games missing.

And then you go to Vice City, and you feel really depressed because half of the city is not flooded with people, and its not a living city like LC. The second island is like dead from the start. But again VCS does this with the first island being dead and second one is the best..

But no worries, SA is even worse, totally has no life in it. It's empty! San Fierro like the worst city R* ever made. Los Santos has some good details like LC, but the game itself fails at showing/using them in the missions/cutscenes. LV was kind of okay. but again, beside desert and casinos, it was the same with SF..

^I will have to say I agree with that. III felt more alive because it was more noisy and there were more ambient sounds. Vice City and San Andreas lacked that atmosphere.

The city doesn't really seem big to me because I know it very well. Though I feel LC is bigger than Vice City and I have heard it is the other way around.

Staunton is really well proportioned. For a game that old (even though it's still awesome) they manged to fit a heap of awesome sh*t onto Staunton without having to make the island ENORMOUS. It was an awesome job by Rockstar. icon14.gif

I like San Fierro! Claude Speed lived there... But I agree, I don't think any other city in GTA III Era was so alive like Liberty City... maybe it is the ambient sounds tounge2.gif More than 10 years later I still think it is a great city! Do you like the gritty atmosphere?

I think that it's not that big, but as it was said before, III's LC is more complete, resembling a real-life city to the slightest detail. Even LCS failed to display that.

And I guess this sense of completeness is what makes it feel bigger than its metric size.

The specific spot for me that felt bigger than it was was the road that leads from the jetty on Portland down past the first asafehouse to the end. Although that was actually quite short it felt like a long road.

lzw3 it's true lol.gif
Filip454 San Andreas was empty in the countryside (obvious) but I didn't feel so empty in the bigger towns... Anyway, the best city, for me, is Liberty City!!

If I had to rank each GTA III era city based on "life" I would rank them like this.

1: Vice City. I know I'll probably get shot for saying that around these parts, but meh.

2: Liberty City.

3: Los Santos.

4: Las Venturas.

5: San Fierro.

I think San Fierro (Claude's city) is very pretty and relaxing, but I feel it's kind lifeless too... Maybe it's because Claude left there!!
