I've done something similar to this before, and controller control is very easy to do, Although I'm not sure 100% how you want this to function...
Do you want the A key to act like the reverse key, and just not reverse, or do you want it to only slow you down, or do you want it to make it where the tires halt?
An east way to simulate a brake indicator is by Using coronas when the key is pressed, its pretty simple.
Not sure why you want this anyways, as the handbrake IRL doesn't activate the brake lights...

Not sure why you want this anyways, as the handbrake IRL doesn't activate the brake lights... | I'd rather keep the auto-reverse function when holding down the reverse key, as I feel that having to press a button or do something else to reverse would take away from the fluid feeling of driving in the game. Rather, the best case scenario would be for there to be a speed check when the car engine is running, and if the car is stopped, display the brake lights. The second and probably easier thing to do would be to tie the lights to the handbrake key, as I can hold down the handbrake key and not move anywhere, like a brake. The problem with that is it doesn't reflect "realism", but it'd probably be easier to do then check the speed of the car and display lights if it's zero.
