hey all please help me I have gta iv on my pc and I played it on 2gb ram for last few months
and now i have brought a new ram of 2gb and installed it on the other slot of my MB and my OS
also detected it as 4096mb with no doubt but when I start gta iv it had no more fps and the same quality which i had on my 2gb ram and when i minimize the game after some time and
open task manager i saw that it was still using only 1526 mb of 4096 mb after palying for 2hours also and the game was still slow as it was on 2gb ram before.

And I thought that it was done by the file
C:/Program Files/Rockstar Games/Grand theft Auto IV/pc/stream.ini
so i opened it and it was what was written there
virtual 204800
physical 204800
virtual_optimised 204800
physical_optimised 204800

So is this what was occuring the game to detect that i have still 2gb ram or something else
or i have to reinstall the game i am totally confuse notify.gif

my pc spec:-
CPU-Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo E7500 2.93 ghz
RAM-4GB DDR2 1600mhz(2x2GB 800mhz)
Graphics card- Zotac NVIDIA Geforce GT 520 2GB
Cabinet- frontech
PSU-450 watt

Please help me................
Thanks in advance..

Stream.ini is unrelated to your performance issues.

The reason you're getting low performance is because either your CPU or video card (most likely both) are holding you back. IV needs a good quad core (or at the very least a triple core/dual core clocked to 4GHz+) to run well.

Your video card isn't exactly fast either.

Having two sticks of 800MHz RAM does not make it 1600MHz. Two sticks of 800MHz RAM = 800MHz, just like how two sticks of 1600MHz RAM = 1600MHz.

OK you are telling that if i overclock my core 2 duo at 4+ ghz then i can play this well but i saw on my friends pc that he had also nvidia gt 520 2gb and his cpu was also intel core 2 duo but his was e8600 at clock speed 3.33ghz and he had also 4gb of ram and he could run this game at all settings high except he had overclocked his gpu gt 520 to 1050 mhz and he had watercooled his pc but i had put all the settings to lowest but then also if i went to increase the settings to medium the game lags like hell. So i don't think that it is the problem of my cpu or gpu i think its the problem that gta iv is not detecting my ram as 4gb.

Ok anyway if you tell i can also overclock my cpu but is it safe to overclock because it decreases the life of your cpu.

Anyway thanks for your advice. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

i dont think your friend had a core 2 duo, nor do i think you can overclock a core 2 duo to 4ghz+

i have an intel i5 2500k and mines at 4.3ghz overclocked, and it runs great. my gpu is a radeon hd5770, which isnt that great, but i play medium settings. gta really eats up the cpu. ram isnt gonna straight up give you a big increase when everything else is pretty bad as well. you sound like you got a really old computer.

IV is a very unpredictable game, friend. It might run great on a low end PC whereas it runs horrible on a much higher end PC, that's the result of poor coding and horrible optimisation.

The E8600 is clocked higher than yours, so overclocking may help. wink.gif

If the OS and BIOS detects your RAM, and you're running a 64 bit OS, IV should detect it too. However, the fact that adding more RAM didn't improve your performance, with all other factors being the same, should tell you that the problem doesn't lie in the RAM. The biggest reason you're lagging is your CPU, closely followed by your video card.

Overclocking doesn't decrease the life of the CPU at all if you only overclock to a speed that is achievable at the stock volts (like for example, E5200s are known to hit 3.33GHz from the default 2.53GHz at stock volts) and your temps are fine (though that isn't a major concern nowadays since tech like TM2 makes it impossible to damage a chip from excess heat). However, even if you were to increase your voltage, provided it is within a reasonable amount, the lifetime of the CPU would not be shortened in a way you'll notice (for instance, even with the overclocking, your chip is likely to last longer than you use the PC for).

@Ne0nLiteZ, Nah you can overclock C2Ds to 4GHz+. There are a hell of a lot of E8400s, E8500s and E8600s that have hit (and even exceeded) the 4GB mark. C2Qs have hit 4GHz too.

Hey can you tell me how much more can my CPU (Intel core 2 duo e7500 2.93) can be overclocked with my default cpu fan and is it necessary to change my default cpu fan before overclocking or can i overclock it with my default cpu fan.
Please reply soon.........
Thanks In Advance inlove.gif inlove.gif inlove.gif

How much your chip can be overclocked depends on many factors, the best advice I can give you is to go ahead and try, first, getting to the maximum speed possible on stock volts, if you're happy with the performance, cool, if not try increasing the volts and seeing how far you can go.

As long as the temps aren't hitting an amount that causes the CPU to throttle or to shut down, you'll be fine. But I'd get an aftermarket cooler anyway.

My advice to you is: go with mild overclocks while watching the temperatures under load like a motherf*cker, you need to get a good sense of what you're doing to your CPU before going into serious stuff. Of course, serious stuff means getting a better cooler.
