Falling Down is a 1993 crime-drama film directed by Joel Schumacher and written by Ebbe Roe Smith. The film stars Michael Douglas in the lead role of William Foster (credited as "D-Fens"), a divorcee and unemployed former defense engineer. The film centers on Foster as he goes on a violent rampage across the city of Los Angeles, trying to reach the house of his estranged ex-wife in time for his daughter's birthday party. Along the way, a series of encounters, both trivial and provocative, cause him to react with violence and make sardonic observations on life, poverty, the economy, and commercialism. Robert Duvall co-stars as Martin Prendergast, an aging LAPD Sergeant on the day of his retirement, who faces his own frustrations with socially-accepted spinelessness, even as he tracks down Foster.

Yeah it was but it was a good ending if you ask me. It show's that he never really wanted to hurt anyone, he only wanted people to let him get on with his life.

One of my favourite films.

Loved the scene where those dumbass gang-bangers tried to shoot Douglas. He justs casually walks up to the long haired one and says....."you missed" before putting one in his calf!

I kind of related to Douglas's character as I'm going through the same sh*t with my bitch of an ex regarding our daughter.

Loved watching this film as I played through San Andreas for the first time. icon14.gif

Scarily enough, Mike Douglas's character reminds me of my brother. He creates scenes like the one in the burger bar whenever there is some perceived sleight against him. I am convinced that one day he will flip out. angry.gif

After hearing many good things about this film I decided to sit down and watch it last night. I have only one question; what the heck took me so long? Honestly, I studied media for three years and yet somehow this film never came up for discussion. Self disappointment aside, I enjoyed this film massively.

One thing I love is how he reacts to things. It's what we all want to do yet we see it as wrong to do so. The burger scene is a perfect example. How many times have you experienced something like this. For example, cinemas refusing to let you in 5 minutes after they closed the doors despite the fact we all know the adverts aren't even half way through by that time. I just want to whip out a shotgun and tell him to move the f*ck aside. He wanted breakfast so why can't he just have his damn breakfast? I also love how he points out this odd first-name-basis thing they do. I hate this informal approach they have.

All in all, I loved everything about this film and I truly wish I hadn't seen it simply so I could watch it again with the same compelling fervour as I did last night.

indeed, and the best thing about it is Falling Down is a layered film. If you watch over and over again you will notice different things each time, sometimes they can be big outcomes and sometimes little subtle references. That is why Falling Down is one of the best Movie's out there, it's also sadly under the radar because of it's release date and lack of cinema viewing.

Falling Down is a real favourite of mine. I love how it manages to be both funny and somewhat disturbing in the way a seemingly normal American citizen lashes out at society in extreme manners.
