Very thought provoking topic. I think the guy above me is Claude, the pics he proved makes me think the art was made before the movie.

ClaudeSpeedRulez but the artwork doesn't look like Scott Maslen, he looks more like Claude from GTA III! Anyway, I guess Rockstar wasn't so very concerned with a character history like they are today tounge2.gif
Mr_Leone yes, maybe it was one of the first artwork from GTA 2...

Hmm, seems like we're getting to where we have never been before - we're witnessing a huge leap in GTA2 development - considering the artworks were made before the actual movie, and not after it.

Arsen Vitiuk I think that in this time they were developing the character, like in GTA III alpha version, where Claude was more like an asian tounge2.gif

As much as I wouldn't mind seeing him, I would really question what direction R* is supposedly taking this series.

Rockstar said they didn't give Claude a voice and speeches because it was their very first GTA in 3D and they mainly focused on (trying) to deliver on that level.
Funny how they picked him back up in San Andreas and let him just remain mute.
The decision to keep his past, age, background a mystery was a smart one.
That way, he reminds me of the DRIVER, the main character in the movie DRIVE.

And for GTA V, I'd actually like to see a mysterious character. I wouldn't mind if that balcony guy is the protagonist, or the guy in the red car and if these very characters DO have a story.
But with a mysterious character who rarely speaks you can't go wrong. It's up to the player himself, to give him a personality through his actions.

Another thing: if GTA V's multiplayer contains classic characters like in Max Payne 3 or Red Dead Redemption, Claude shall definitely be there.

The Claude in the promotional movie dies at the end. As far as I can remember you survive at the end of GTA 2.
/thread.

Yes that's why he is different in the game.
In the movie he dies but in the game he kills not just the Zaibatzu assassin but every gang leaders and assassins.

Who said he dies? You don't even see exactly where he is shot. He could have survived.

With Claude's fate left ambiguous, both in GTA2 and GTA III (provided they are not the same canon) I would want to see what really happened to him afterwards. This is what interested me most of all, in fact. And I personally think that this leftover from the III era can be a prime development land for a new GTA. Because III era, and GTA2 as well, left us with some ambiguities, with questions that were not answered - and that is what I personally would love to see sorted out.

BTW, Clause is my fourth most favorite character, the first three being Salvatore Leone, Ken Rosenberg and Reni Wassulmaier, in that exact order.

The beauty of it is that they leave it up to you to decide what happens next.

And this beauty is what irritates me a bit, to be honest.

I personally love when there are no more ambiguities, no more questions.

Beauty and curse. I really agree with Arsen that I would love to know what really happened but at the same time I'm afraid that Rockstar would just say "he dies at ..." and I'd never be able to play the game the same way again.

Oh, and to be on topic: No.

Hmmm, I just guess it would work the same way like for the guy who played LCS before III, and then returned to playing GTA LCS already knowing that Salvatore will die. Playing LCS will be a different experience to him now. Still, I don't think that will be a burden to anybody.

I don't think comparing with Salvatore works. Yes, he was a character of massive importance but he will never be as important as the protagonist himself. However, comparing with someone who played as Victor Vance in Vice City Stories before they ever played Vice City would probably work. I never thought about that as I haven't played VCS.

I played both VCS, and VC, but the original VC first. So I can't really tell that.

I think that major characters' fates work much the same way the protagonists' do. So there is not any considerable difference. Well, at least for me.
