This has def been spoken about before (not long after the game was released) but I just wanted to bring this up again because it seems there arent alot of people who got one of these. I never saw one on ebay or any other place of sale. In fact, some people still deny their existence!


For those who dont know, a real metal Key to Liberty City was awarded for those who completed the games with 7 days of release. I received mine many weeks later as it took ages for them to get them made once they knew the numbers. There was no official information on the number of people who won however the lack of second-hand sales worldwide makes me think that the numbers was hundreds or low thousands.


Anyone have any other info on this topic?

Like trophies on your account, somehow good for nothing except showing you spent a lot time playing a game. Some trophies indicate that it wasn't FUN to get them but hard work and well, a waste of time.

I think he means R*sent him a physical key, like a door key or something, and you can show that to your imaginary friends and teddy bears.

LOL! I'm married with a child and have many friends (you're not talking to any lonely virgin living in his parents basement here). I just like GTA so much I always take a couple of days off work to play it from release! Its funny how speaking about these keys always seems to end up with jealous negative comments!!!

Anyone who is really into GTA would be well up for getting a trophy for completing it. I thought it was kinda cool. At the end of the day GTA has been going for many years now so it was nice that Rockstar was willing to give something back to its long term and dedicated fans.

For a forum all about GTA im worried you guys arent really into the game that much (sort of a take it or leave it / I'll wait for it to be on sale attitude)

I can see what your saying. Horses for courses. I got the special edition game with collector case and stuff, I also got the statue of liberty replica... I guess Ive been playing GTA games for so long now that I just like collecting the stuff. To get something that was very limited was just cool I thought.

I was drifting away a bit with the trophies...been playing this game recently, "Demon's souls" and wanted to gain all trophies to get a platinum trophy only to realize:

"What for?" Other (online) friends already got dozens of platinum and hundreds of gold trophies...my goal became somehow redundant cuz some trophies mainly need your personal time, much anger included...if you know the game "Demon's souls".

I consider myself a dedicated GTA (IV) player...been going through the story over and over the last 3 years. Cool thing with the collector's stuff. I've just seen a digital book of artwork people put in here/on sale at amazon...some nice pics inside.

Sh*t, come to think of it, there are more than a bunch of collectables about the game - if you go search eBay or find the old dusty thread somewhere in the forums about what people have collected, you'll see stuff that makes you sh*t bricks.
If you know about the key, the Pisswasser, the dices or the statue replica, you know about, what, maybe 5% of the collectables, lol.

It could be that some of them are customs but I've seen a sh*tloads of collectables popping up around the forums.

All I ever got was the subway map and the poster.

May be wrong, but as mentioned above, someone posted a topic/post with the key they won, and I think I remember that he was selling it on Ebay, or maybe he was just showing it off.

Will keep my eye open for that topic.

It wasn't just the first 100 people to get 100% that got the key. If you beat the game 100% by a certain date (I think it was the 19th May) you became eligible for a Pewter "Liberty City" key. I believe a few thousand ended up with the key, I was one of those few thousand (ah how times change).

However even though a few thousand got the key that still makes it incredibly rare when you consider close to 20 million bought GTA 4.

No it was just the first 100 people to get 100% in that dead line. All I had to do was kill all the pigeons and I would've made the deadline and their were topics and proof it was only the first 100 people. They had a list and it said it was already full. Pissed me off that they made me rush the game so quickly for nothing. They didn't tell you at first it was just 100 people, but it came out a few days before the deadline that it was only 100 going to get it.
